Installation

“Pocketalk Pair” is used by installing a dedicated program on your computer.

Preparation

• Computer
• Web camera*

* If your computer is equipped with a camera, you do not need to prepare it separately.

Installing

1. Download the installer on the computer where you will be using Pocketalk Pair

   The installer is available from the download page.

2. Run the downloaded installer

   Follow the instructions and install the application. In the [Welcome to Pocketalk Pair] dialog that appears, select a button to start using the application.
   • If you have a serial code, select [Enter the code].

   NOTE

   Install Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2019 Redistributable Package (x86) and (x64) if a message instructing you to do so appears (Windows only).

Using Pocketalk Pair

• Listen (to simultaneous translation)
• Speak (displayed as subtitles)

Listen (to simultaneous translation)

1. Launch the installed Pocketalk Pair

   

2. Choose the translation languages

3. Set the switch at the bottom left of the screen to (on).

   Start simultaneous translation.

   • Turn the switch at the bottom right of the screen to (on) to start reading out the translation results.
   • Simultaneous translation stops when the switch at the bottom left of the screen is set to (off).

   NOTE

   Simultaneously translate online meetings, web browser sounds, ambient sounds, or both. Settings can be changed in the [Listen (to simultaneous translation)] of the settings screen.

Exit Pocketalk Pair

Pocketalk Pair keeps running as a resident software even if you close the settings screen.
To end Pocketalk Pair, follow the steps below.

• Windows: right click on the task bar and select [Exit].
• Mac: select [PockeTalkSubtitles] in the menu bar.

Using Pocketalk Pair (1/3)

1. Click on the right side of the screen to display the Speaking function

2. Choose the translation languages

   

   Translation will be done in the direction of the arrow.

   NOTE

   You can translate up to two languages at the same time, such as translation from English to Spanish and Chinese.

Using teleconference services (2/3)

3. Joining a teleconference with a computer

   NOTE

   If you join a teleconference with a web browser, you may not be able to use Pocketalk Pair depending on the teleconference service. In this case, use a desktop version of your desired teleconference service.

4. On the camera settings of your teleconference service, select [Pocketalk Pair]

   Confirm that the “POCKETALK” logo appears on your camera image.

Translating (3/3)

5. Press and hold the [Press and hold button when speaking] of Pockatalk Pair, or the space key on your keyboard and speak into your computer microphone (release the button or the space key when you are finished speaking)

   The translations of the words you spoke will be displayed on your camera image as subtitles.

Exit Pocketalk Pair

Pocketalk Pair keeps running as a resident software even if you close the settings screen.
To end Pocketalk Pair, follow the steps below.

• Windows: right click on the task bar and select [Exit].
• Mac: select [PockeTalkSubtitles] in the menu bar.

I want to translate into two languages

You can translate into two languages such as Spanish and Chinese at the same time.

Select [Full-page (two languages)] in - [Speak (displayed as subtitles)] - [Show subtitles] and you can select two translation languages in the Pocketalk Pair.

To return to the Home sceen of Pocketalk Pair, follow the steps below.

• Windows: click on the upper right corner of the screen.
• Mac: click on the title bar.

The camera image or subtitle display is slow

This may improve by reducing the camera image size of Pocketalk Pair.
You can change the display size in the Pocketalk Pair - [Speak (displayed as subtitles)] - [Resolution].

To return to the Home sceen of Pocketalk Pair, follow the steps below.

• Windows: click on the upper right corner of the screen.
• Mac: click on the title bar.

I want to change the display position of subtitles

You can change the display position of subtitles.
You can change the position in the Pocketalk Pair - [Speak (displayed as subtitles)] - [Show subtitles].

To return to the Home sceen of Pocketalk Pair, follow the steps below.

• Windows: click on the upper right corner of the screen.
• Mac: click on the title bar.

I want to change the display language of the Pocketalk Pair (software)

You can change the language in the Pocketalk Pair - [General settings] - [Language].

• Windows: click on the upper right corner of the screen.
• Mac: click on the title bar.

I want to hide subtitles

Switch the camera setting of your teleconference service to the camera of your computer, or end Pocketalk Pair.

Exit Pocketalk Pair

I cannot display the camera image of Pocketalk Pair on my teleconference service (Windows only)

Pocketalk Pair may not have started, or the teleconference service may have started before Pocketalk Pair.
Follow the below steps and this may be improved.

1. Close the teleconference service that could not display the Pocketalk Pair camera image (if you also have Pocketalk Pair running, end this as well).

   Exit Pocketalk Pair

   NOTE

   If you are using a teleconference service on your web browser, close the entire web browser and not just the tabs or windows.

2. Start Pocketalk Pair.

   Confirm that the camera image is displayed in Pocketalk Pair.

3. Start the teleconference service where you want to use Pocketalk Pair.

   Choose [Pocketalk Pair] in the camera settings of your teleconference service and confirm that the camera image of Pocketalk Pair is displayed.
